The Wikipedia definition of germination includes: “in a general sense, germination can be thought of as anything expanding into greater being from a small existence or germ.” A lot of germination is happening at the farm right now. First day of work for employees, who will help water and tend and grow and have fun.
The organic medium red clover is just starting to show itself in the fields:

We “know” what germination is. Well, we know that plants arise out of seeds, which is completely amazing. Yesterday, I opened a sack of micro green seeds, much larger than the familiar small paper seed packets I am used to. It was thrilling, actually, to scoop out a quarter cup of purple Kohlrabi seeds, a quarter cup of Giant Red Mustard seeds. I had a heart-racing reaction to it. Covering the surface of the soil with a blanket of seeds is like an amusement park ride for a grower.
How fortunate it seems, to have these seeds, like little precious gems. How can it be that they will completely change and turn into something else? How can big, amazing life be contained in a tiny seed? How can the tiny Kohlrabi seeds become this:
How can the little amaranth seeds become this?

Expanding into a greater being… a grower along for the thrill ride, a person remembering connection to the earth, the soil, Creation, growth, and the realization of beauty.
